An ELC is an observable ability of a practical nurse at entry-level that integrates the knowledge, skills, judgement and attitudes required to practice safe, competent and ethical nursing care.
The five categories of ELCs include:
1) Professional Practice,
2) Ethical Practice,
3) Legal Practice,
4) Foundations of Practice,
5) Collaborative Practice.
Once licensed, LPNs are expected to be able to demonstrate all ELCs throughout their career as guided by the specific context of their role or position.
