This section of the website is for you if you are:
- retiring from your position and do not plan to continue working as a nurse or
- resigning your licence with one of the nursing designations.
If you are retiring from a position but plan to continue working as a nurse, you are required to hold a practising licence.
Note: Our licensure year runs from November 1 – October 31.
You must renew your licence during the annual renewal season and pay the licensure fee for the full year. Your licence and all accompanying benefits are valid for the entire licensure year. Even if you only work a few days or weeks into the new licensure year, you must pay the full year’s licensure fee. There is no short-term licence option or refunds available at this time.

The Retired Affiliation is for you if you do not intend to practise nursing but wish to use the title “LPN or NP or RN retired”, depending on the nursing designation you held.
You can apply for this affiliation if you:
- Were previously registered and held the equivalent of a practising licence in Nova Scotia or another jurisdiction
- Were previously authorized to use a nursing designation in Nova Scotia or another jurisdiction
- Did not have your license revoked and not reinstated
- Do not currently hold a practising licence
- You understand that you are not to engage in the practice of nursing or hold yourself as having the authority to engage in the practice of nursing.
